City & Guilds E-Quals – Thurston

WHAT

E-Quals is a range of IT qualifications from City & Guilds, aimed at people who have used a computer, either at home or at work and wish to have a formal qualification to show their level of knowledge.

E-Quals students may also sit the City and Guilds National Test in either Literacy or Numeracy. This qualification is at two levels, level 1 is equivalent to GCSE Grades D-G whilst level 2 is equivalent to GCSE Grades A-C.

An online target skills assessment taken during the induction will determine the level that you can take.  Prior to taking the National Test students can if necessary receive additional training at no extra cost.

E-Quals qualifications are ideal if you want to get the best out of your computer. They help build skills and confidence in a range of areas, which are covered as separate assessed modules in:-

·         Word-processing

·         Spreadsheets

·         Databases

·         IT Principles  (Mandatory)

·         Desktop Publishing

·         Presentation Graphics (PowerPoint)

Students are required to take three modules starting at Level-1. We would recommend the Word Processing unit be taken first. On successful completion of all three, a City & Guilds Certificate for IT Users will be awarded.

Students may then progress to Level-2. On successful completion of three units a Diploma for IT Users would be awarded.

HOW

Students work through resource packs at their own pace, with tutor support when required.  Students will be allowed 40 hours guided learning per unit (based on a commitment of 4 hours per week).  Students may attend for either 2 or 4 hours at a time.

If you would like to find out more, you are welcome to call in during opening hours (see below) or telephone Thurston Learning Centre 01359 232204 anytime and Jenny or Neil will get back to you as soon as possible.
